The Dachau concentration camp, also the first ever, had the privilege of carrying the title, "The most notorious camp". We see the reasoning in this in that it was responsible for the deaths of an estimated 43,000, among which were prisoners of war, prisoners of Europe, Jews, mentally impaired, and anyone else Hitler deemed unworthy of Germany. These people would die of diseases such as Typhus, malnutrition, exhaustion, or execution. Despite the astonishing number of deaths, Dachau was not a death camp like Auschwitz. Prisoners in this camp would be forced into labor and harsh medical experimenting to the point of breaking. Once the prisoners were no longer well enough to be productive, they were transferred to death camps, particularly Auschwitz, to be put to death so new people could take their place.
