Post War Life of Oscar Schindler
Life during WWII was hard for Oscar Schindler, his wife Emilie, and the Jews who he had rescued from death and camps. When the war had finally stopped everything was peaceful, the Jews, Oscar and Emilie were able to enjoy life and not hide any longer. In 1949, Schindler had settled on a farm with his wife and fellow Jews. Sadly, this did not work for Oscar, in 1957 Schindler became bankrupt and had to move to Europe where he left Emilie.
A few months later Schindler tried to open a cement factory in West Germany, but went bankrupt again in 1961, because his partner would not work with him because he was racist to Jews. 1962, he was honored by Israel as a Righteous Gentile. Schindler was not successful in business so he lived on the money the Jews paid to him in gratitude. Germany was not pleased with Oscar and did not welcome him as a citizen since he helped save the Jews during the war, so they treated him with disrespect. Many of the people threw rocks at Schindler and would not allow him to live in their apartments or housing. The floor of the Harry S Truman was dedicated to Schindler for his service for the Jews in the war. On October 9, 1979, Schindler died from liver failure and was buried in Jerusalem.
